N v J: the Last Word on Domestic Abuse as Conduct?
On Monday last week, in In N v J [2024] EWFC 184 (15 July 2024), Mr Justice Peel handed down the most recent authority on pleading conduct pursuant to s 25(2)(g) of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973. Those interested in this area have been keen to see whether Mr Justice Peel, as the Lead Judge of the Financial Remedies Court, would move the dial either in terms of procedure, or the application of the substantive law. Like all of Mr Justice Peel’s judgments, it is erudite, comprehensive and concise. It is also timely.

Are We Clear? Transparency and the TIG Financial Remedies Sub-Group Report
The conclusions of the Financial Remedies Sub-Group of the Transparency Implementation Group were published in April 2023. Established by the President of Family Division and led by HHJ Stuart Farquhar, a group of 13 – judges, lawyers, a legal blogger and a journalist, based around the country – spent countless hours over several months tackling the often misunderstood and controversial topic of transparency in the Financial Remedies Court.

‘An ascent so steep as to make a meteor blush’ – The valedictory for the Honourable Mr Justice Mostyn, 3 October 2023
On Monday, 2 October 2023 history was made in Court 4 of the Royal Courts of Justice, with the swearing in of the first ever Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales. Just a day later, in the very same, similarly packed-out court room, Lady Carr crossed the rope to open at the valedictory of the honourable and inimitable Mr Justice Mostyn.
